One athlete who still, somehow, wasn’t aware of this is American Ben Payne. Payne dominated the Peachtree 10km race in Atlanta on USA’s Independence Day but, only metres before the line, got a little cocky and started to celebrate. The schoolboy error allowed British Olympian Scott Overall to lunge and take the win by just 9/100ths of a second.
